Loosely based on the famous play, ‘An Inspector Calls’, this year’s Grand Showcase production is not only written but also directed and acted by ALC students. The play, titled ‘Served Cold’, is story about the sometimes messy and ugly truth that we all cannot avoid. Yet somehow, as the play dramatically unfolds, we realize that sometimes, the truth is what we need to move forward.
The story revolves around Chief Ayodeji Ayodele, a prominent man whose wife throws him a surprise celebration for his birthday. In the midst of the festivities, the unsuspecting family is visited by a mysterious investigator on a mission to unravel a series of robberies that have been taking place. As the investigator begins his questioning, the Chief suddenly starts coughing and dies. What follows next is a confusing and tumultuous journey where the investigator insists on uncovering the increasing mystery. The family that was once connected through the Chief is now threatened as several troubling secrets reveal the painful truth of the Chief’s murder. A series of flashbacks further uncover webs of betrayal and corruption that the family had tried to cover up but now have to face in order to move forward. But the real truth that the family seeks to disclose is, who killed the Chief? And is his killer in the room?
Join us in this riveting play that through a mixture of drama, suspense and some African humor, teaches us the truth about facing the truth.
