Caudan Arts Centre in association with Aurora Nova. A play by Nassim Soleimanpour.
White Rabbit, Red Rabbit – a play that will make the audience think differently about theatre!
What happens when an actor comes on stage, alone, and has NO idea what (s)he is going to perform? Written by the award-winning playwright Nassim Soleimanpour, White Rabbit, Red Rabbit is an unconventional, experimental performance with:
- No sets
- No Special effect
- No music
- No costume changes
- No director
- No prior reading
- No rehearsals
- No lines learnt
It is a play that asks you to keep your mobile phone on so that you can email the absent (or present?) playwright during the show. The play begins when the actor opens a sealed envelope containing the script, in front of the audience. What follows is a cold reading, enactment, improvisation and interaction as both actor and audience discover the play together. This is the story of Nassim Soleimanpour who had refused compulsory military service in Iran and was not allowed to leave the country until 2013. Playful, entertaining and thought-provoking, it is NOT overtly political – it is metaphorical and triggers some pertinent reflection about the roles we play in our own lives and about human behaviour.
White Rabbit Red Rabbit has been performed over 1000 times around the world by renowned performers such as Whoopi Goldberg, Nathan Lane, John Hurt, amongst others.
