After his Master’s Degree in Theatre in England, Ashish has been heavily involved in theatre in India and Mauritius. In his stint as Senior Lecturer at the Mauritius Institute of Education, he has taught drama and English and been involved in curriculum writing of the Arts. His numerous travels for workshops or productions abroad allow him to have a wide perception of theatre, ranging from traditional to experimental forms. His knowledge offers him the opportunity to stage his own theatre productions. Ashish is now the theatre manager at Caudan Arts Centre and his main objective is to encourage the discovery of Arts in its diverse forms, underpinned by the importance of understanding Mauritian culture.
This drama course is open to everyone, with or without prior experience in theatre. It not only seeks to impart specialist skills in acting, but using drama techniques, it aims at developing self-expression, vocal flexibility, imagination and communication of beliefs and feelings.
Participants will be engaged in a wide variety of activities: from physical theatre, text-based work to realistic acting and improvisation, this course will draw from a range of acting styles and techniques. The course will be delivered in a safe and encouraging environment: after all, acting with or without words, developing collaborative work, using voice & body for expression and working on characterisation can be challenging for anyone. But this is all possible through theatre games and working as an ensemble: we will learn, fail, succeed and along the way, have a good laugh at ourselves while growing as performers.
The course is divided in 3 inter-related components:
Term 1: Acting skills and script-based work
Term 2: Performance and Stage craft
Term 3: Preparation for final performance on stage

Teaching children how to act is challenging, to say the least: they’re doing it all the time! This drama course therefore is based on a two-fold approach: learning to act and acting to learn. While drawing heavily on the participants’ imagination and creativity, this course will focus on improvisation, basic script-work, voice projection and techniques, communicating emotions, acting in various roles (from make believe to real-life situations) – all leading to a final performance on stage at Caudan Arts Centre.
Built on a collaborative approach, the drama course seeks to develop social interaction and, confidence and self-esteem, the ability to speak and perform in public to friends and peers and to encourage reading through different activities. We would be lying if we said this drama course is only about these key elements: above all, the course promises to be fun, engaging and entertaining!
